Duck for President is a great book for readers of all ages. The book is similar to the process for those who are running for president. In this humorous tale Duck who lives on a farm with many other animals, and owner Farmer Brown. He's kind of a lazy duck and doesn't like being told to chores and he surely didn't enjoy doing them. So he thought that he would take a stand and have a vote against Farmer Brown so he could take over the farm. Duck won the election but soon learned that it was even harder to be a farmer than it was to do the few chores that he originally had to do.
Next he decided that by running for governor that life would be much easier. Adding to his winning streak he won the election hands down for governor, but again he soon realized that running a state was even harder than being a farmer and it was no fun at all. He soon became bored with this and decided he should move on. What will he do next?
This bird is learning that its not always easy to be in charge and that just because you are asked to complete a job or a few chores in Ducks case its not the end of the world. Sometimes its easier to finish what you started instead of trying to find an easy way out of it. There are far worse things things that you could be doing.
While illustrations are bright, colorful, and targeted towards children 4-8 years of age, this book has humor written between the lines for older adults mentioning former presidents such as Clinton,Nixon, and G.H.W Bush.
This book covers the basics of the election process which most older children or adults will notice right away, but to young children it feels their minds with the possibilities of being able to go far in life because you set your mind to it. Duck has decided hes not happy with his life so hes going to do something about it, and going to move onto something new. While other parents or readers may view this book in several aspects I think its great for giving young children ambition.
Written by Doreen Cronin and Illustrated by Betsy Lewin they have concocted a children's book that will warm the heart of most children and definitely gain a few chuckles a long the way.
